SIDS and Kids supports ABC TV's warning about 'Bringing Up Baby'

SIDS and Kids supports ABC TV’s decision to run a warning at the beginning of their series, ‘Bringing up Baby’.
From Thursday 26th February, until the series final, ABC TV will begin the program with the following advisory note to viewers:

“Some of the parenting practices advocated by the mentors in this series are not consistent with current, scientifically based, safe sleeping messages and can increase the risks of sudden and unexpected death
in infancy including SIDS and fatal sleeping accidents.

“The ABC advises that the term ‘maternity nurse’ used in this program does not signify a professionally qualified nurse but rather someone with experience in caring for babies and children.”

ABC TV will also include SIDS and Kid’s website address at the end of each show to provide viewers with access to current safe sleeping guidelines. Current safe sleeping practices recommended by the National Scientific Advisory Group of SIDS and Kids advise that babies are slept on their backs, with their faces uncovered, avoid exposing baby to tobacco smoke, and sleep in a safe environment in a separate sleep surface next to the parents bed for the first six to 12 months.
